简介
With “The Easier Mile,” Ryan Tennis releases his third and most diverse full-length offering. Tennis, with his group, “The Clubhouse Band,” captures the energy of his native Philadelphia, blending it with influences from recent tours in Colombia, Argentina and Europe. Styles range from reggae to folk to Afro-Caribbean to soul and rock. Like wandering back roads through a new city, you’re kept guessing what you'll discover around the next corner, and underneath all of it is a current of groove and warmth that urges you forward. In the studio Tennis teamed up for the second time with producer Pete Donnelly (The Figgs, Soul Asylum, NRBQ), and in a few short sessions captured the live synergy of this seasoned group that has been touring and working together for years. The reflective 'Til the Ghost is Gone describes the dark dreamland of the mind that can only be visited alone; another, No Longer Could I Stay, tells the archetypal story of a young man working his way from the east coast to the west. ¡Quarantined!, conversational and crass, is from the delirious perspective of a patient on his fifth day of an unknown tropical illness. By contrast, Before the Lightning is an innocent adolescent love song that uses Afro-Caribbean rhythms to capture the electricity in the air leading up to a big storm. Echoing the diversity of the original material are three raw, energetic covers of some favorite influences - Harlem by Bill Withers, Roller Skates by Steel Pulse, and Look at Miss Ohio by Gillian Welch. The album ends with the title track, a light-hearted, old-timey drinking song, and the listener is left feeling like they’ve finally arrived after a day of exploration at a big party full of friends. “The Easier Mile” will be released in Tennis’ home town of Philadelphia on Friday, March 4th at Milkboy Philly and will be followed by a regional stateside tour (NYC, Newark, Providence, Northhampton) and spring tours through Argentina, Germany, Switzerland, France, Austria, and the Netherlands.
