Math Music is good quality, catchy music that teaches at the same time. Developed by a math teacher, these songs can be used at home or in the classroom to cause students to passively learn multiplication facts. After years of seeing students struggle in multiple areas in math, it became obvious that the root of the problems students were having with topics such as fractions, algebra, probability, and word problems was students' lack of understanding of how multiplication truly works. Memorizing multiplication facts is not nearly as beneficial as having the ability to skip count. Being able to skip count expands students abilities beyond simple multiplication because is gives them a sense of how numbers work and how to manipulate numbers is ways that basic memorization misses. Play the songs in the background while students work, and after a few days you will find them singing along. Soon you will see that even students that typically struggle in math will know how to skip count with any number through 12. Building this foundation will help children immeasurably as they progress. Give young children a head-start, teach middle elementary students in a fresh way, or help a struggling middle-schooler in an easy way that he or she will actually enjoy.
