When an artist “connects” with a source of inspiration that guides him to creative places he would never have gone it is a truly cathartic moment. I don’t know how else to describe how Desert Meditations came to be. The music is meditative, relaxing, hypnotic and dare I say, spiritual.

Around 15 years ago while walking through the magical town of Santa Fe, New Mexico, I heard my first Native American Wood Flute being played by a local Native. The sound was haunting and beautiful. Inspired, I purchased one. Being a classically-trained flute and saxophone player I took to it fairly easily but was amazed at how an instrument with such a limited playing range ( just over an octave) could yet be so incredibly expressive.

When I began recording this album I could swear that spirits of the Southwest desert – or some power beyond me – were guiding my hands. Even now when I listen back to it I wonder “How did I do that? How did I get that sound?”

This music is highly influenced by the mystical chants and flute music of the Native Americans of Southwest, yet somehow brought into the modern world with acoustic guitars, swirling pads and even an occasional touch of sweet jazzy saxophone. Give a brief, quiet listen to the music samples. I’m sure you’ll agree. But more importantly, I’m sure that it will take your mind to wonderful new places. I don’t claim to have been abducted by aliens outside of Area 51, but I do sincerely believe that some power beyond me -- from that beautifully awesome desert -- guided my hand to bring this music to you, the listener.
