简介

Paul Rooney – ‘Lucy Over Lancashire’ Originally released on 12" red vinyl on SueMi Records, Berlin (Germany), in 2007. Re-issued as a CD June 2014 on Owd Scrat Records, and available as a digital download for the first time. Vinyl and CD available here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lucy-Over-Lancashire-12-VINYL/dp/B000NDDPBU Liverpool (UK) based artist Paul Rooney made the ‘Rooney' (UK band not US one) albums of 1998 to 2000, and a Radio 1FM Peel session was broadcast in October 1999 (see Rooney on CD Baby). ‘Lucy Over Lancashire’ came out in 2007, and was Paul’s first solo record release since Rooney. The 16-minute, single track, ‘B’ side only, red vinyl 45rpm 12” record was specially made to be broadcast in November 2006 via Steve Barker (the dub guru of The Wire magazine) and his ‘On The Wire’ programme on BBC Radio Lancashire. It was subsequently broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music amongst many other stations. The 16-minute track consists of industrial strength post-punk dub, with a demonically possessed, but cheerful, single voice Lancastrian monologue over the top of it all. The voice is that of Lucy, an evil ‘spryte of the air’ who says that she is possessing the grooves of the record itself. She relates a tale about the pivotal role that the county of Lancashire, England has in the plans of Satan, ranging from the Pendle witches and the Satanic mills of the Industrial Revolution right up to the dark bile of the Red Rose Radio phone in shows of Allan Beswick (who also appears on the record). Now the Berlin based SueMi Records (great name that, SueMi) have just released it as a 16 minute track on red 12” vinyl…Thoroughly enjoyable piece…” Robert Sandall, Mark Edwards.
