'The Cradle' is a landmark step in the recording career of australian duo Penny Larkins and Carl Pannuzzo who defy categorization in the contemporary acoustic music world. This CD captures the essence, sound and feel of their intimate live performances which allows audience a personal engagement with self and vulnerability in a safe space of nurture. The beautifully crafted arrangements, subtle instrumentation plus pindrop recording by engineer Mark Woods at Bald Hill Studios make for an exquisitely dynamic journey of story-songs and moments of music to feel. Among the wealth of outstanding original tracks including the reflective ode, 'The Climb' by Pannuzzo and the topical and empathetic anthem 'Cry with Me' by Larkins, are also some great versions of obscure covers such as Sinead O'Connor's 'In this Heart' and the controversial 'Ibrahim' by Eric Bogle, both given unique and arresting a cappella arrangements. These two palette rich voices fly amidst a tasty backing of graceful acoustic played by Pannuzzo with some choice additions by dobro master Pete Fidler and the great bass of the ubiquitous Mal Webb. Specially sealed with a hand-crafted cover by artist Jessie Storm, this is a quiet masterpiece that will keep any listener many versions of a confidante company.
