简介

‘‘NKHUVU’’: Celebration of the Mozambican Culture ‘‘African music is the image of Africa. The music exists, and it is present anywhere. This isolated fact is nothing special. What makes it special is the historical relationship that it has with the sound and strong communion with the visual effect that differentiate it from any other culture in the world. The sound carries with it the rhythm and the movement creates the image.’’ - Manu Dibangu The life in Africa is determined by the number of events that it bears, with the music symbolizing the birth, the rituals, the marriage, the crops and the death. In this way, the identity of one people is manifested by the way it celebrates its ceremonies. ‘‘Nkhuvu’’, is the joy, the smile, the crying, the music, the dance, and how it celebrates life. ‘‘Nkhuvu’’ is the celebration, is the victory of each step of our life. With “Nkhuvu” Stewart Sukuma reveals to us the dimension of the nation through celebration in form of music, where it is expressed with the happiness of being ourselves, continuing to be ourselves and transmitting what is our identity. ‘‘NKHUVU’’: The music, the rhythms, the lyrics, the melodies and the sounds. The 18 tracks that are compiled on this CD transport all such intensity of the everyday life of one people. The history is being told and sang with the evolution of the events, in this case the ceremonies, that go from the childbirth, its beginning rituals, looking for an identity, the marriage and the celebration of its own live. The rhythms being used are a result of the research on the traditional music blended with the urban music that gives it a “new” touch and reflect our cohabitation in today’s global world, with the explicit purpose of obtaining a universal sound. The melodies performed by Stewart Sukuma are the reflection of the varied forms of ancestral influences that inhabit this country and today’s reference points in the Mozambican culture. The Islamic influence in the north of Mozambique, frequently visited in the past by the Arabians and the inevitable inheritance of the Portuguese spread out in the whole country, are undeniable of that rich mixture actually prevailing and we wish it prevails forever. The lyrics, passes a massage of cultural affirmation, searching in the history facts and true events based on the feelings that unite all the human beings: The Love, chanted here with various forms. ‘‘Nkhuvu’’ the motivation: In this so disturbed world, we need strong references to situate ourselves in the global world and the music inside the cultural mosaic has something to say; we are doing it in a pleasant way: sing our history.
