Comfort and safety are laid low by the invasive qualities of confusion and loneliness. The absolute disruption to the self is brought through in a pervasive sense of dread; the doubt the mind creates in moments of discomfort. Over the Ocean is not about the removal of these moments of distress, but rather understanding the need to accept that the waves will wash over into hindsight.

The importance of the song, the purpose, is to remember that courage and certainty can only be cultivated through times of strife. The only path to be taken is forward, despite the discomfort of complete emotional submersion. The call is to push beyond the momentary dread into a position of control when we come to accept that the only way forward is to start swimming.
