The Rake & Ramblin' 4 have been playing music together since 1963, when they were all members of Company H, Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. They call their music "Americana"... folk, country, western, bluegrass, blues, and gospel. "Trilogy" is their third CD, having recorded previously in 2001 and 2008. Then, in 2011 the recording studio called once again, this time Mountain Fever Records in Willis, Virginia- to record what we think is our best effort to date- “Trilogy- Long Journey Home.” It is our hope that these CD's honor the music we played and the times we lived, that it will be a source of enjoyment and pleasure for you and that it will hearken back to the halcyon days of the mid-60’s, when our hearts were young, our spirits were soaring and our music was precious, fine and rare. The Rake and Ramblin' 4 consists of: Dave Thomas- vocals, banjo, and lead guitars, Sandy Seay- vocals, dobro, and guitar, Rod Smith- vocals and acoustic bass.

Today, one of the original members of The Rake & Ramblin’ 4 no longer plays music, although the group continues to play and perform the music of America’s roots. For live performances, Dave, Sandy, and Rod rely on one several talented friends to play as the fourth member- usually adding a guitar, mandolin,or doubling on both instruments.
