简介
Karen Almquist – Acoustic Roots with a Blues Bent This is a woman with “gutsy guitar playing, and songs straight from the heart,” says acoustic guitar innovator Alex De Grassi about Karen Almquist. Other artists describe her as “soulful,” “high quality,” and “one hell of a guitar player.” She’s also got the goods when she gets behind the harmonica or in front of a piano. Karen’s most recent work-in-progress—reviving and arranging old swampy bottleneck tunes—sprouted when she dusted off a 1930’s resonator guitar she found at a garage sale. She plays music because it’s in her bones, with influences such as Lightning Hopkins, Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, and James Taylor. Karen has recorded three projects, including Tracking of Time, produced by Nina Gerber. It’s a rare pleasure to catch her in live performance, but when you do, her silky voice and bluesy feel are reverberating from a living room, the rooftop of a friend’s New York apartment, or a listening room somewhere in Europe. Recording artist Kristina Olsen says, “Give her a listen,” and you can do so at www.myspace.com/karenalmquist.
