简介

It was on two very hot mid-summer afternoons spaced a year apart that the tracks on this CD were recorded. The intent was to capture in a studio setting what the Rollercoasters have been delivering live at the many Blues haunts of Toronto during the past decade. To this end, we decided to record entirely "live off the floor", without overdubs on either the instruments or the vocals. The song material we drew from is unabashedly "straight ahead Blues", paying humble tribute to the masters of the past, while at the same time breathing into the songs a new life through improvisation, with the goal of creating our own distinct interpretation. In so doing, this incredible musical art form called the Blues undergoes a constant rebirth and renewal. We are very happy with the result, and hope that you enjoy this CD as much as we do. Cd Review by John Valenteyn: "Doctor Nick’s name has long graced our listings pages and it’s good to finally have a CD available. Most recently, he & the Rollercoasters have been performing at the Rex Hotel on Sunday afternoons. Nick Ouroumov is the vocalist and harp player and his Rollercoasters, while not always a fixed unit, usually include Bob Vespaziani on drums, James Rasmussen on bass and Pete Schmidt on guitar. Julian Fauth guests on piano throughout. The program here is indeed BLUES…straight ahead – a solid selection of postwar electric blues, not many of them overdone and all very well played. Otis Spann’s “I’m In Love With You, Baby” starts things off, with Billy Boy Arnold’s “Wish You Would” giving the disc an early Yardbirds feel. “Westcoast Lowdown” is an excellent original harp instrumental - a slow blues with a debt to George “Harmonica” Smith that is acknowledged immediately afterwards by his “I Want A Woman”. Pete Schmidt is featured in a tribute to Pee Wee Crayton with a heartfelt “After Hours”. Other tributes are to Slim Harpo, Little Walter & Big Maceo. Get over to the Rex Hotel and get yourself a copy. Their web site is www.myspace.com/doctornickandtherollercoasters." John Valenteyn Maple Blues Magazine
