For three decades David Sanders has been capturing Montreal in images and song. He was the photographer on "the king and I", with Al Pacino, one of which hangs proudly in Eurodeli. The photo of Gary Sharp at Barfly is his as well as the many ads for Harry and Michael Toulch published for over twenty years in the Mirror. And all the while he was playing his own songs, recording his first independent albums and persistently performing shows. His music was hauntingly real, the lyrics honest. Soon after I first heard David's music, I began to experience a new phenomena. I would wake up with the most pleasant melody in my head... We've all had a song stuck in our head, but this was unusual because the sound in my head was as rich as any professional recording, but I couldn't place the artist. And as I listened, within my imagination, some of the words, then phrases, would be heard in my internal rendition, until suddenly it would hit me. After searching through my entire mental catalogue of recorded music... I would shout out "Oh, for christ's sake! It's David!" and put on his cd. Then it happened again, with another of his songs. And again. The phenomena continues to this day. Perhaps David writes songs that stick in your subconscious, that speak to you when you need them. Hear for yourself.
