简介
The music on this CD was born in an Irish Pub called the Wilde Rover over the course of 7 years of regular Monday night performances, Celtic Nights, where Geoffrey Castle, Dan Connolly, Eric Robert, and Darin Watkins, and a crew of amazingly gifted and talented Northwest musicians created this unique approach to traditional Irish Pub music. This CD charts a new path through timeless material. While most recordings in this genre cleave either to a thrashing hard rock approach or a very traditional acoustic approach, this band charts an ear-pleasing middle ground. We tested this stuff in front of a live audience for 7 years, including major theaters and festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest. Geoffrey Castle's violin is the thread that holds this project together, weaving a sonic tapestry full of variety and virtuosity; there are times where the violin sounds like a huge classic rock guitar, and there are times where the violin sounds like it's being played on a street in Galway. Eric Robert's masterful work on Piano, and keyboards gives the songs on this CD the feel of a Bruce Hornsby project, and it is this piano driven approach to Celtic music that really sets this recording apart from so many other offerings in this genre. One track that is worthy of note is "Uptown Maggie": a jaw dropping mash-up of a traditional Irish reel with a salsa rhythm section and a huge rock violin solo. We're pretty sure this isn't something you'll easily find elsewhere... Geoffrey Castle plays a six-string electric violin created for him by T.F. Barrett and Co. He also plays on a 120 year old Heberlein fiddle...
