The Brand is a rock and roll band from Hialeah, FL that formed in 2002. While this band has seen a revolving door of musicians coming in and out, The Brand still is and always has been Omar Garcia and Juan Fernando Oña. At a time when most locals were playing darker music (emo, metal, prog), The Brand started taking elements from 60s, 70s, and 80s pop, while putting a modern twist on the classic rock sensibilities. In 2002 The Brand released their self titled EP, and their LP “Grenadine” in 2004. The New Times named The Brand “Best Rock Band 2004” and “Best Pop Band 2005.” Around this time The Brand was heavily touring The U.S. They even crossed the pond to London to play a few showcases. Life circumstances would force The Brand to take a break in 2006. Omar moved to Seattle where he began building vintage amplifiers and starting his company Browner Sound. Juan would go on to start local bands Pretty Please and Haochi in Miami. In 2002 Juan moved to Fort Lauderdale where he opened his recording studio Apparatus Studios. All though The Brand was dormant at this time and with it’s members on opposite corners for the country, Omar and Juan kept collaborating on music through dropbox and occasional reunions. In 2015, Omar’s job situation allowed him to work remotely half the time. Omar and Juan immediately decided to reboot The Brand. On August 25th, The Brand will be releasing their 3rd album “Fascinator” which being release with an accompanying zine which is all hand illustrated by it’s members. Early next year, Omar plans on moving back to South Florida where he and Juan will merge their studios and put The Brand back on hyperdrive.
