Australian based group Headland serve up a lively mix of traditional and more recent Irish songs, wild jigs and reels as well as blues, original compositions and contemporary music. Headland’s music is built upon the rich voice of Dubliner Robbie Kirwan, Canadian John Gallagher’s vocals, compelling guitar and songwriting skills. Kevin Tierney’s vocal and instrumental work, Mark Feeney’s irish dance music on whistles, flute and cittern and Dane Clarke’s harmonica and mandolin playing. All the members have worked on their music skills for many years and bring their own dimension to the group. Robbie Kirwan-A Dubliner who has spent most of the last 30 years in New Zealand. His stunning voice is equally at home with blues and contemporary music as with the traditional songs of Ireland. John Gallagher -A Canadian singer / guitarist with a background in contemporary and blues music. Relatively new to traditional music. John has recently discovered a real talent for song writing. Dane Clark - harmonica player and mandolinist who has played in bands around the Coffs Harbour area and has performed at the National Folk Festival in Canberra. Mark Feeney -On a trip to Ireland in 1978 he heard Irish traditional music for the first time and has been playing Irish whistle ever since. Now also plays flute, cittern, mandolin and banjo. Also a tosser of cabers other heavy stuff ! Kevin Tierney-Kevin has sung and played guitar since his teens and has wide musical tastes. Influenced greatly by Richard Thompson and John Martyn and particularly enjoys accompanying Irish music. Played and recorded with Sydney band Bluetongue in the eighties. Has recently taken up the acoustic bass guitar. Steve Dunick- Fiddle player and guitarist whose strengths lie in improvisation and accompaniment.
