简介
In 1983 four Washingtonians got together in the basement of bassist John Winslow for the first practice of the Blinded Camels, a band exploring various sounds from Talking Heads to King Sunny Ade (a frequent player at the Adams Morgan Festival): the music that still keeps the band together under it's 21st century monicker the "Staggering Heights", however, is Reggae! Initally discovered on WHFS Radio with DJ Doctor Dread, and nurtered by the rich roots scene in DC in places like the "kilamanjaro Club," The Camels/Heights have always loved to play reggae. The Camels played at the Safari Club, the Insect Club, DC Space, and even CBGB's. Today the band doesn't do regular gigs, although members can be spied from time to time at Pablo's "Reggae Sweatshop" at Chief Ike's in Adams Morgan. The band concentrates on studio time and recording while exploring new material. Improvization is always at the core. Not to be confused with the likes of SOJA, the Camels never flirted with the idea of Rastafaranism, but have a great respect for the culture. Instead the Heights bring their unique perspective to the music of Jamaica. Recently they have reached out to other artists. Most notably Pinky Dread the Roots Singer based in Negril, and Heidi Martin - the DC Jazz Vocalist. It's been a long ride, on a foggy road, and the destinanation is unclear, but one thing is certain - The Staggering Heights will love and play reggae until the ride is over! Peace from members John Winlow - Bass, Andy prosky - Guitar, Grahm Hunt - Vocals, and Matty Dread - Drums, and all of our posse!
