Band Bio 12/24/06 Into the Light First Album: Peace be with You Classic Rock with a Christian Message Into the Light, a Valparaiso-based Christian rock band, came together in the spring of 2004 to provide music for the Praise Service at First Presbyterian Church. The band members quickly realized they shared musical tastes, and a vision for taking their gifts and God’s message to an even broader audience. They call their music “Classic Rock with a Christian Message,” and the record and their live sets reflect their influences: The Beatles, The Eagles, 70s arena rock, folk, funk and country. The music features soaring four-part vocal harmonies, layered guitars punctuated by sax, flute and keyboards, and a steady-as-a-heartbeat rhythm section. In addition to their original songs, they cover a wide variety of traditional and contemporary praise music. They have quickly built a local reputation as a band with a conscience, performing at dozens of benefits for local missions such as the Spring Valley Homeless Shelter, the Valparaiso Food Pantry, and, at the Memorial Opera House with two other praise bands, a benefit for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Their first record was recorded in their home church. A “sweet spot” in one corner of the sanctuary became their lead vocal booth, and the cavernous fellowship hall became the reverb unit where they recorded the background vocals. When all the basic tracks were recorded, they took them to BearTraks studio to add the finishing touches. In all, they logged over 200 hours to make the album. Into the Light is: Bryan Bennett: vocals, guitar Greg DeVries: keyboards, vocals (My Window) Harry Karabel: vocals, guitar, harmonica, mandolin Ken Koch: bass Ken McAloon: vocals, guitar Dean Stolpe: vocals, sax, flute, harmonica, percussion Mike Williams: drums, vocals For more information, contact the band’s manager, Jonathan Parker at 219-464-4511.
