简介
Brian Hyphen is an electronic music producer from Dublin, Ireland. Influenced by a large number of artists (but mainly by Kraftwerk, New Order & Fluke), he has written and recorded music for over 20 years. Brian Hyphen comes from a family of musicians (including the legendary Irish accordionist Sonny Brogan), and while always a fan of music generally, his fascination with recording started at the age of nine when his father taught him how to edit tape with a splicing kit. As well as teaching Brian the basics of music composition, harmony and arrangement, his father was also a keen recording enthusiast, with quite the collection of reel-to-reel tapes and decks for recording and editing, all of which was of huge interest to Brian as a youngster. The purchase of a Commodore 64 in 1983 created further opportunities for experimenting with sound and composition (and the odd game of course..) Many years of experimenting with tapes and editing followed until 1993 when Brian purchased a Roland JW-50, and recorded a series of demos which were circulated to friends and colleagues. Further synths followed, his favourite at the time being a Korg X5D, with which he continued to write and record until 2001 when he began a four-year study of Sound Engineering and Music Technology with Pulse College in Dublin. After graduating from Pulse in 2004, Brian Hyphen spent several years upgrading his recording studio, and recording various jingles and remixes before finally beginning work on the album 'Dice' in 2013. While the majority of 'Dice' was written over the last few years, it also contains a few musical elements from the various tracks Brian had written since 1993, remixed, re-written and polished, and perhaps recognisable in places to anyone who may have held onto copies of those early cassettes. In that sense it is something of a personal diary. 'Dice' contains ten tracks of original electronica covering a variety of styles. Some upbeat, some downbeat, some lyrical, some instrumental, some loud, some quiet, and finishes with the title track 'Dice' which contains a sample of an early Commodore 64 dice game (with very kind permission from Jamie Clyde). While Brian Hyphen continues to remix for other artists, 'Dice' is a fully original electronica album of Brian's own unique and interesting music.
