简介

About the Pieces: Having composed music for live theatre for over ten years, Stephen Lias has created a considerable number of works that served as folk music in their original fictional settings. "Imaginary Folksongs" rescues six such pieces from productions such as "The Tempest", "The Royal Hunt of the Sun", and "She Stoops to Conquer", and resets them for alto and soprano saxophone with piano. "Five Characters from David Copperfield", written in 2003, looks to literature for its inspiration. Charles Dickens’ great novel contains a cast of rich and varied personalities, five of which are illustrated by the music of this set. Since 2009, Stephen Lias has been writing pieces that celebrate America’s national parks. "Range of Light" takes this approach one step further by basing all four movements on iconic images of Yosemite National Park by photographer Ansel Adams. About the Performer: Nathan Nabb is in high demand as a saxophonist of both chamber and concert music. Performing regularly with the St. Louis and Houston Symphonies, he is also a member of the Oasis Quartet and Amethyst Quartet. His playing can be heard on recordings available from AMP, Innova and BIS recordings. James Pitts is an active recitalist and soloist and has performed with the Waco Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Civic Orchestra, and the North Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He was a semi-finalist at the International Competition of 20th Century Piano Music in Orleans, France. Zach Hanks is best known for his extensive voice-over work in dozens of video games including the Star Wars, Call of Duty, and Final Fantasy franchises. His acting roles have included performances with the Utah Shakespearean Festival, Texas Shakespeare Festival, and New York’s LaMama, ETC. Stephen Lias’s music has been performed widely around the world by such ensembles as the Boulder Philharmonic, the Ensamble de Trompetas Simon Bolivar, and the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin. He has served as Artist-in-Residence at numerous national parks, and the resulting pieces have been performed in such places as Australia, Taiwan, and Alaska.
