Formed by students at Sunderland Polytechnic in 1978, The Debutantes explored the joys of adrenalized power-pop in the post-punk era, and drew inspiration from kindred spirits such as The Rezillos and XTC. This is the only existing record of their brief moment in the spotlight. The band's members were Mike (vocals), Valerie (vocals), Helen (vocals), John (drums), Nigel (bass), Nick (guitar, songwriter). Guitarist Nick Clift moved to London to form the band Ski Patrol with singer Ian Lowery, formerly of fellow Sunderland band The Wall.
