简介

Dance, choreography, celebrations, ceremony, listen, enjoy! These lively celebratory drum rhythms can be used by dancers for study, warm up, and choreography. Music for West African Dance is one of several purposes for the creation of this C.D. Musicians will travel to Guinea West Africa. As is traditional, ceremony, ritual, and musical pleasure are a few of the other reasons for the creation of this work. The name of the project is “Fa Ani Dinke”, which in Malinke means “Father and Son”. So named, because it is the Fathers and sons who play this music for the Mothers and Daughters. Thus resulting in community! Two fathers, (Eugene Blunt and Rahsan Cummings) and two sons, (Jelani Blunt and Kalil Cummings) put this music into motion. Both boys were in their early teens when we entered the studio. It is only with the blessings of the Mothers and daughters that we were able to accomplish this task. The very name of the C.D. came from Rahsan’s wife Fatu. She translated, gave language advice and helped with the research for the purposes for which these rhythms have been used. Fatu is a “Keita” (a Royal family of Guinea, West Africa, descendants of Sunjiata Keita, early ruler of the Mali Empire, and niece to Djembe fola Mamady Keita) Another reason for this body of work is to display what can be accomplished by spending some “unplugged” time with your family. These youngsters have been listening to, and playing this music, most of their young lives. The Cummings and the Blunts have been intertwined for many years. Our children have been blessed by our ancestors to have been born immersed in these rhythms. This was a way to show them the progress of their studies. It is part of our desire to be able to share some of their innocence before they would become professionals. Rahsan Cummings Jelani Blunt Kalil Cummings Eugene Blunt
