In 1996 Frank teamed up with a sweat-shop full of Sydney musicians and set about to butcher a few sacred cows, smoke a couple of hams and make mincemeat of some tender cuts from a variety of genres. Radiohead, Pearl Jam and Michael Jackson, to name a few, all get the treatment. The steaming rhythm section of Andy Travers, Peter White, Tony Hysteck and Andy Lewis swing the daylights out of the sophisticated arrangements of Freddy Hill, Elliot Wilshier and Frank Bennett. Producer Marc Scully enlisted a great horn section then threw in the talents of guitarist Heath Nicholson, accordionist Phil Grove and slinky backing vocalists Jennifer and Melinda Teale, Vanessa Green, Zena Benjaman and Sydney soul icon Pat Powell. Scully also cunningly exploited the multi-talented Andy Travers on vocals, percussion and harmonica. Frank even dusted off his trusty old saxophones to blow on four of the tracks. Lovingly recorded by mix-master Tony Wall, Franks different yet deferent spin on pop caught the public’s imagination and scored two ARIA nominations in 1997.
