NEW CD DREAMLAND Bobby Bofman: “Dreamland” – Counter-culture ideals and deep-rooted philosophy, laid over a gorgeous musical bed. Review By: Rick Jamm of Jamsphere Magazine: An independant music magazine and social network that aims at discovering and promoting top indie acts. Dreamland is another original collection of songs from Bobby Bofman. Recorded in Phoenix Arizona, at the New Approach Recording Studios, the Scott Hetherington Project plays on the album which also includes a fine contribution on Congas by Ernie Nicasio. Chicago-born, American-roots style, singer-songwriter, Bobby Bofman is multi-talented and has studied dramatic arts under the direction of the late great Zina Provendie who was the head drama coach at Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studio. Bobby is also a published author and his book “Coffee House Poet” is available at Amazon. Moreover, with his music, Bobby has performed in every type of venue ranging from small intimate coffee houses to football stadiums. Each time Bobby Bofman releases a new body of work I get excited as his work is always, what I call ‘technically uncontaminated’. Or rather, his music finds its core from the roots up. I am completely and utterly in awe of “Dreamland”. Deep, meandering, and epic, this album could have been released in 1960, 1970, 1980 or 1990 and no one would have blinked. Not because it sounds like it’s from any of those periods in time, “Dreamland” is truly an album ‘out of time': intensely personal and yet also very distant and spacey. This is a folk record. This is a blues record. This is a rock record. This is a country record. No, this is ultimately a singer-songwriter record created in a full band style. “Dreamland” is the work of an incredibly powerful wizard, hurling lightning bolts of roots rock. Bobby Bofman is one of my favorite artists says Rick Jamm. I had no idea he had it in him to create such a potent work of pure genius. If you are only able to listen to one or two tracks from this album, let that be “If It Matters” and “Roller Coaster”. These songs act as a kind of sonic air lock, decompressing the listener into the album’s intense atmosphere. These are probably the best two songs Bobby has ever done on record, in my humble opinion. And are worth the purchase of this album alone! But as always, on Bobby’s releases, every song is a winner because the whole sound; singing, playing and every note is at the service of the songs and melodies. It’s a bit nostalgic in places, but Bobby’s nostalgia sounds more like passion than anything else. There is very little self-indulgence and a huge amount of real musical substance. “Dreamland” is definitely classic Bobby Bofman. Like a fine bottle of vintage wine, it comprises several associated flavors – a hefty dose of strong lyrics , a strong twinge of rhythms and some serious rock n’ roll vibes mixed with some mellow tones as well. Bobby Bofman and his boys are totally in peak mode, jamming hard and tight. If you appreciate counter-culture ideals and deep-rooted philosophy, laid over a gorgeous musical bed, BUY THIS ALBUM!
