简介
The Kris Johnson Group is made up of 9 dynamic musicians from a variety of musical backgrounds. Trumpeter Kris Johnson has appeared on an impressive list of albums including two Grammy-nominated releases: Tony Bennett’s A Swingin’ Christmas and Karen Clark Sheard’s All In One. Kris toured internationally with the Count Basie Orchestra from 2008–2010 and is a prominent performer, composer, arranger, and educator. He has master’s (2007) and bachelor’s (2005) degrees in Jazz Studies from Michigan State University, and is an endorsed artist of CarolBrass® instruments. In 2012, Kris was selected as one of 25 Detroit performing and literary artist to recieve a 2012 Kresge Artist Fellowship. “Odd Expressions” is an exciting new album that explores unique musical directions for jazz and classical music. This album features all original compositions by Kris Johnson that explore odd-meter time signatures ranging from 1 through 25. Despite the rhythmic complexity of the music, the album is rooted in deep grooves, lush harmonic structures, and memorable melodies. The featured piece, “Odd Expressions,” is a 25 minute, through-composed piece that skillfully integrates a jazz ensemble with a full symphony orchestra. This work was commissioned by Alan MacNair and the Troy High School Symphony Orchestra for its premiere performance in February of 2011.
