简介

About Crown Demos: Crown Demos was a clearing house for the songs I was working on in July 2009 and a few ideas I had laying around from the Spine Tosser and Open Season writing sessions that spring. There's way too much music here. Enjoy it a volume at a time. About the Field Recordings Series: What is the _Field_Recordings_ series? It is the designation I am giving to the collections of songs resulting from my home songwriting/recording process from March 2009 onward. So far it has brought about four unofficially-official albums split into eight volumes. The series is many things: an informal dry/demo run for new (or old?) songs that might be considered for upcoming proper studio projects; a clearing house for orphaned ideas; a place to try out more experimental, humorous, crude, satirical, or absurd material than I might normally feature in my albums and live sets; publishing demos for songs I may not get around to recording in a studio; and a way to keep me constantly engaged with the songwriting and recording process (kinda like exercises, I suppose). But above all, I make this music because I like it; some of it's just stuff I recorded to amuse myself. The tracks range from 10-second instrumental snippets or jingles to lengthy cuts and everything in between. Some people might call even the THOUGHT of releasing all of this an unreasonable or irritating display of ego, but those people clearly don't understand my genius. In all seriousness, since artists are usually judged more on quality than quantity -- and perhaps rightly so -- I think I probably need to defend and clarify this material. Although I do treat each of these collections as an album (or part thereof) in its own right, and any of this stuff can surely be listened to next to _Outsider_, I have given these collections a different designation. These are not my proper, official studio albums. They are the albums in my _Field_Recordings_ series. Different things are being attempted (and hopefully accomplished). That being said, I really stand behind _Field_Recordings_, and what they represent to me, in a big way. In the months that surrounded _Outsider_'s release, I tried to make sense of how to get this other material out. I settled on this sort of "bootleg series" -- kind of an alternate discography. Should I release them by compiling only the best tracks? I thought about it, but I decided I should keep each collection as-is, because they are albums in their own right, at least of sorts. Some of the songs are great, and some of the songs are garbage; I know this. But maybe it's not up to me to decide which ones are which. Each session has its own character, and if there ever exists a fan who is interested in my creative process, the _Field_Recordings_ series acts as a very different (better?) document than completed studio albums or live shows, in my opinion. Plus, if people want, they'll just pick out their favorite tracks anyway. That's cool with me too. Here's hoping my ideas don't dry up, and that the ratio of good songs to craphole songs improves.
