Sonny Throckmorton, a Nashville "Hall of Fame" songwriter with 18 # 1 hits to his credit, wrote "He Don't Have My Heart" and added his voice to the track. The previously unrecorded track, "Since I Gave Up Cigarettes", was written by Merle Haggard and Doug Colosio and given to Carter via Haggard's longtime co-writer and friend, Freddy Powers.
