The Jay Willis Quartet with Bassist Rick Fadale, Paul Fadale on drums and Michael Merisola on percussion, came together as a band over 20 years ago, through our fathers, who were also respected professional musicians. It is with this lineage, respect and history that our third CD as an ensemble comes to fruition. This work is a complete thought, with attention to being accessible and polished. The music here is original, laid back and thoughtful. This is a complete turn from the high energy fusion for which the band has become known, to a setting that is introspective and reflective. The music here does not command you attention, rather it sets a context of reflectivity which travels from Smooth to Latin. Not one musical note prior to the completion of this album was written or played from sheet music. Purposefully this was done so that the musicians were collaborative and offered their views and talents toward a cohesive effort. Special guest guitarist Paul Viapiano, a noted LA Philharmonic member and studio musician whose hometown is Buffalo, reunited with the band with a sensitive, film score approach. There is special attention paid by the players not only to the notes, but also the space between the notes. Quietude is a work that was completed, with no observers, late into many evenings, in private studio and session with no deadlines. Please enjoy.
