Notes on this music: Dream Shield Journey is a highly personal work from Suzin Green. Composed over a 6-year period and recorded in 1995, the music unfolds in four movements, called "musical shields." Each shield weaves art song settings of sacred poetry by female mystics with solo piano. Although Suzin stopped performing on piano during the late 90's, choosing to focus on kirtan and kirtan fusion, Dream Shield Journey is still held dear by many fans. This is a musical work that wants the attention of the listener. Some people find they need to listen a few times before it grabs them. But over and over, people have said, once it grabs them, it doesn't let go. What many don't know is that she trained as a classical pianist. And later went on to perform with several experimental music/dance/ theater companies. During that period she became fascinated with the healing power of the arts, a fascination that led to her study and practice of yogic mantra and meditation. Today, nearly 35 years later, that fascination forms the thread connecting all of her work. Suzin now teaches Devi Yoga, a system of practice built from the Hindu Goddess tradition, Tantra, Bhakti Yoga, Archetypal Psychology, and the Way of Art.
