简介
Graham Moore is a Dorset, UK, folk singer and writer of historically rooted songs such as 'Tom Paine's Bones' and 'Tolpuddle Man' which have received international acclaim and become part of a 'living tradition'. Accompanying himself on guitar or English concertina he is renowned for his powerful performance of traditional and original songs The songs on this album were written for the folk musical ‘Tolpuddle Man’ which was originally performed by Dorset, UK, folk theatre group, Endangered Species. In 1834, six Dorset labourers formed the Tolpuddle Agricultural Labourers Friendly Society in order to: "preserve ourselves, our wives, and our children, from utter degradation and starvation". Although Trade Unions had been declared legal in England, they were charged and found guilty of administering illegal oaths. Their sentence of seven years transportation to Botany Bay and Van Dieman’s Land, produced a massive protest from the workers of England which shook the establishment and resulted in their eventual pardon. All songs written by Graham Moore except tracks: 5&6 (Mick Ryan & Graham Moore) This album also features Gill Redmond, cello and Lucy Roberts, fiddle and the original cast of Endangered Species. Track 16 was recorded live during a performance at the Old Crown Court, Dorchester where the six labourers were originally tried.
