简介
Doofgoblin’s 8-song, 21-minute program, entitled “Stoop,” is the first official release since Know the Situation (Unschooled Records, 2005), an album that Resonance Magazine described as “a blissful, forward-looking, kick in the pants to the electronic genre.” Since then, Doofgoblin (John Gulino) has focused on building software-synthesis systems that enable him to write on the fly, moving organically from one idea to the next, a natural characteristic of working in a synthesis-based environment as opposed to a sequence or sample-based one. The performance-inspired method of composition has become his studio method and the process has moved from one of hundreds of meticulous edits to only a snip here and there. “I’ve recorded a couple of albums worth of new material since the release of Know the Situation, but I wanted to release this latest group because it’s still so fresh and intense to me. It’s been a hard winter, but I’ve deepened my appreciation of birds.” A Drop In Silence is comprised of two members, John Carey and Matthew Thomasson, who have been creating music and performing together for over eight years now. During this period, the duo have split their time between fine-tuning their sound and playing highly regarded live performances. While this is not the first time they have released music together over the years it does mark their first official release to be distributed on an international scale. The four tracks that have been selected for this release include refined versions of long-standing favorites in addition to new material. A Drop In Silence's unique approach to making music ultimately serves to fuel their fascination with listener's emotional perception of sound. The pair utilize homebrew synthesis and sequencing algorithms to create music that combines delicate arrangements with aggressive breakdowns, stirring up the inevitable curiosity of their fans, and keeping them coming back for more. The teaming of Doofgoblin with A Drop In Silence makes sense artistically, socially, and geographically. The two acts have performed together in the Mid-Atlantic U.S. several times since meeting in April 2005, both demonstrating the power to energize audiences and bring them from guttural howls to rapt silence during the course of their live sets.
