Marysia Trembecka started writing dance music at the same time as studying jazz music and harmony but did not discover her true direction till she put a ten piece band together whilst on a jazz course to perform one of her own tunes 'Vampire For Your Love'. She fell in love with the way a band moves and blends and hence she chose to make an album the old fashioned way, with the whole band all in the same room playing together as one. Thus her debut album "IF YOU CAN'T MAKE LOVE, MAKE COFFEE" (a title given to her by Jerry Leiber of Leiber and Stoller fame!!) was born. Marysia co-produced "IF YOU CAN'T MAKE LOVE, MAKE COFFEE" with the legendary remixer Michael ‘Skins” Procopiou (Judge Jules partner for thirteen years producing such monster tracks as 'I Love To Move It', 'Can You Feel It' and 'Keep Pushing' amongst others ). With the fruits of Michael's extensive knowledge and experience of dance music allied with Marysia's songs and jazz arrangements, on this album Marysia has crafted her own sophisticated, soulful brand of music. Marysia continues to sing regularly both as a solo artist and also she does a huge amount of harmony work, mostly at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the harmony group there which supports touring artists such as Bryn Terfel. The Making of the Album "IF YOU CAN'T MAKE LOVE, MAKE COFFEE" Marysia realised the only way she would be able to make the album she dreamed of was to do it herself to ensure full creative control. She wrote the album in her home studio, 4 of them being co-written. "Goodbye" is the exception as it is a long existing tune of Steve Waterman, which Marysia then wrote lyrics to. The band was put together by her making a wishlist of her perfect band and then praying very hard for the courage to ask them. It is a blend of truly superb jazz instrumentalists but with a rockier rhythm section to ensure music you could dance to and seduce someone to. The rock/punk drummer Dave Barbarossa she met in film writing class, the percussion player Adrian Meehan she hired through a friend turned out to have been an old acquaintance. The awesome Steve Waterman on trumpet and Russell van der Berg on sax were teachers of hers from Wavingdon jazz school who had been very patient with her! John McKenzie on bass was hired just before the session though she had last seen him play 4 years before. The cellist is Amy Lindsay Barry Green on piano Marysia first met at a Marian Montgomery performance course she had done years before. Myles Kayne on guitar has been working with Marysia on various dance music projects and jazz gigs. They met through the dance music producer Michael Skins. Marysia asked Michael to co-produce in the week of recording and on the edit given his amazing ears and sheer niceness! Given his additional former careers as a reggae drummer and percussionist he also played when the mood took him. Marysia was given a huge amount of help, advice and sheer love by everyone. Even finding the right studio was hard, given so few places are able to understand this kind of recording without killing the budget. The man who suggested we put the drummer in a drafty corridor down the hall will be left unmentioned. Before the week of recording the 15 tracks (now down to 12 on the album) the musicians who, for the most part, had never even met let alone rehearsed, were sent a mix of parts, a CD of tracks and musical arrangements. Given the experience and brilliance of all the musicians it was great to see how everyone checked in their egos at the door and to put it plainly made beautiful music together. At the end of the 5 days Amy on cello was brought in to overdub (the drummer was so loud it would have been impossible to record her live) as well as Maria Davis, a great jazz singer and personal friend of Marysia's came in to do backing vocals on 2 tunes. Marysia mixed the album in the Studio at the Sunset Marquee hotel, Tom Fritz who previously worked at the Hit Factory in New York is the engineer who worked against a tight deadline and tighter budget. The album cover has been designed by Martin Butterworth who is a fan, and more importantly a film/record/poster designer and creative genius. If You Can't Make Love Make Coffee - the album title was suggested non other than, Jerry Leiber as of Hound Dog, Stand By Me Fame etc.. who Marysia met a few times as she is a friend of his son Jed Leiber who also owns the Studio at the Sunset Marquis. Marysia now spends a lot of her time singing at the Royal Festival Hall in London as part of the harmony group there. Sje has sang in 18 different languages and sings soprano one. However this album was recorded and writtem before she started working on harmony. She has sang cabaret and jazz in the UK and Montreal and taken her solo shows to various festivals such as Edinburgh, Montreal and Brighton. Londontown is currently being remixed by Andrew Hyde. Marysia blogs and podcasts on creativity and spends he working days as an actress and performer. She also plays 8 instruments now, some very badly indeed. About MARYSIA – a glamorous former City Trader, left the trading floor for the stage, and is now a jazz/cabaret singer, comedienne, actress and multi-instrumentalist. As a teenager Marysia joined the Air Training Corps where she flew planes and learned to shoot rifles. Her great, great grandfather was Poland’s equivalent of Shakespeare so creativity and vodka are in her blood, driving her to leave the City and move to LA to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. In 2006 she performed at the Edinburgh Festival in her own cabaret show ‘Marysia’s Slightly Bitter and Twisted Lessons In Love’ inspired by her days of partying around the world. In 2007 at the Edinburgh Fringe, Marysia performed two shows a night; her own “Find Me a Primitive Man” and compered the “Midnight Carousel” cabaret show, 68 shows in 28 days! Marysia took her own show to the Montreal Fringe Festival in 2008 and in 2010 Marysia co- wrote and co-performed the sell-out show ‘Cooking and Cabaret’ at the Brighton Festival. Since then Marysia has been in various plays and musicals as well as continuing her cabaret/jazz love. From cabaret and jazz standards to original comedy songs Marysia lurches from musical excellence to chansons d’amour and debauched bitterness. She also sings regularly as a high soprano at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the in-house harmony group there. London venues Marysia’s cabaret/jazz shows have sold out at include Too 2 Much, Pizza On The Park, Mortons, Lonsdale House, Volupte, Soho Arts Club and many a dark bar. Private cabaret/jazz gig highlights include The International Lawn Tennis Men’s Tournament official dinner and the Scottish Women Insolvency Group (SWIG) as recommended by the Edinburgh Fringe. Further highlights include her touring ‘Some Day My Prince Will Come.. Honest’ , the ‘All About My Men, All About My Mother’ for Europride, Notting Hill Funday Festival and headlining the Proud Gallery’s New Years Eve cabaret party. Marysia also does straight stand up comedy around London as well as compereing so she has the experience to ensure that the audience enjoy themselves. Marysia, is on a forthcoming French cabaret album and has some London and Paris gigs lined up in 2013. Since making this album in 2005 Marysia has continued to study singing and jazz playing, her m ain instrument is the bass though she has played on stage the double bass, accordion, percussion, ukelele, guitar, harmonica and the musical saw. Marysia is also currently acting in various stage and screen productions and she is also a fervent blogger on creativity, music and a Twitterer. The remix of Londontown will be released in Summer 2013, the remixes arebeing done by Andrew Hyde. You will also find some of Marysia's dance tracks uploaded including two dance music versions of Sun In The Morning, as that is how that tune started.
