简介

Matei Ioachimescu and Catalina Butcaru share a deep understanding of classical music, while their visions meet on the territory of musical originality and phantasy. The extraordinary musical symbiosis that brings them together has its origins in a long-standing collaboration and countless concerts and recitals, unanimously praised by the critics and the public. It is for the first time however that they record a CD together. The title – „Lumière” – had not been chosen randomly since the CD contains works written by French composers from the second half of the XIXth century. The lights of Paris shine throughout the whole recording – listening to it you will feel as if you were visiting the galleries of the famous Musée d’Orsay. The inner essence of the Impressionism – light – is present through the delicate sonorities of works signed by composers such as Debussy, Poulenc, Ravel or Fauré. The aesthetical principles of the Impressionism inspired numerous composers of the XIXth century. Of course it all began to appear in paintings, when Monet, Manet or Renoir exposed their first impressionist canvases, but soon their vision expanded towards other arts. Impressionist music is characterized by suave sounds, complex harmonies and by a certain delicacy of the dynamics which is more restrained than in other stylistic orientations. Impressionist works insist more on suggestions, which are built without dramatic rhythmical cuts and through a melodic subtlety rarely seen in other currents. The musical Impressionism is well-known to Matei Ioachimescu and Catalina Butcaru, as the Lumière CD is the result of the „Paris” National Tour, presented by the two musicians in 2012 in some of Romania’s most important cities. The repertory consisted of works which have been also included on the present CD. The great success of the tour was possible thanks to a flawless interpretation blending in all the stylistic particularities of each one of the works. Matei Ioachimescu and Catalina Butcaru bring the lights of Paris closer to the listener in an exceptional recording distinguished by refined and original interpretations.
