Robert Kyle & Riner Scivally have been making music together for over 20 years, and this is their first CD project together as a jazz duo. Guitarist Riner Scivally is a supreme soloist & accompanist and his sense of time, swing and taste are on full and beautiful display here. The duo format offers lots of space for Robert to explore the full range and nuance of his tenor & soprano saxophones & flute, and he also adds to the groove on various percussion instruments when not playing his horns. Together they explore some of the reigning favorites of the standard jazz repertoire, including “A Night in Tunisia,” “Body & Soul” & “Giant Steps,” and they also have their way with some lesser heard gems like “Jitterbug Waltz” & “Good Bait” as well as a couple of originals. It’s mostly straight ahead & swingin’ but you will also find some Latin & Brazilian flavor here, and a little bit of funk :) This is a nakedly beautiful context in which to hear these two seasoned masters create...
