Afronaut is a three piece country blues band from Soweto, and leading exponents of the exciting 'So Punk' movement that gets its name from the eruption of new bands in the famous township. The band started in 2019 by then rapper Fumane Mahane also known as Fumes On The Mic and ex TCIYF guitarist THula Si Zwe. The formation of the band was due to a series of random unconnected events that resulted in stunning chemistry between the multi-talented ex SADF sergeant, Thula and the imposing charismatic vocalist, Fumes. They would quickly add the virtuoso violin skills of Johannesburg Symphony Ochestra member Zakhele Mangwanyane. From their very first shows AfroNaut received enthusiastic and fanatical responses to their energy, songwriting and storytelling abilities, creating an inclusive universe that connects audiences immediately, music fans responding to their anthemic dramatic melodies and words.
