Lee Zebert 2012 Music Bio When I was about 10 years old my aunt taught me three chords on the guitar, then one day in middle school I got the chance, at an assembly program, to perform “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay”, by Otis Redding. I used to listen to everybody on the radio and had my share of 45 rpm’s and I dreamed of one day hearing my own songs on the radio. I began writing in college, one song after another, in every kind of style. I recorded my first album in 1979, with the encouragement of my uncle, in Washington D.C. with some of the guys from the United States Army Blues Band. Shortly thereafter, I moved from my home in Pearl, Mississippi to Austin, Texas in the early eighties. I was able to perform, write, and record my songs. I was also able to hear my songs on the radio and see one of my songs in Billboard Magazine. I was given encouragement by Willie Nelson on his golf course one day. I also spent time singing on a Carnival Cruise Ship “The Festivale” before moving to Nashville with the encouragement of Roger Sovine of BMI and Merlin Littlefield of ASCAP. I was able to co-write with Bobby G. Rice, who had a #1 hit in the early 70’s, “You Lay So Easy on My Mind.” I also co-wrote a song with Jim Weatherly, who wrote “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “Neither One of US”, for Gladys Night and the Pips. I met Dorothy Moore, who sang the hit song “Misty Blue” who told me to keep the faith and keep on writing. I had the opportunity to sit down with Tommy West who produced Jim Croce, who gave me a boost in my songwriting. I’ve played many writers nights in Nashville even the Bluebird Café. I quit performing live for years, because I was discouraged, door after door not opening for me and feeling I was running out of time. A very famous international motivational speaker told me after they heard me perform a song one night privately about three years ago told me , “Lee, if you don’t do this, for the rest of your life, shame on you.” I started writing just for me again, and recently, a dear friend, Brent Holmes introduced me to his producer Dave Hoffner who credentials are impeccable. I sent him the song “Nobody” that I had recorded roughly in my home. The song was actually inspired by my wife of twenty-two years, she said to me, “Nobody’s ever loved like you do”. Dave got two other world renowned, creative musicians, Jim Horn and Gary Talley to come breathe life into the song. I gave it to my wife as a birthday present April 21, 2012. We played it for a few friends and they suggested CDbaby, Itunes etc. So, here we are sharing it with the world. There’s been many other personal and professional influencers for me along my musical journey, too many here to mention, they know who they are. Thanks for pushing me onward.
