There’s a 15-mile stretch of highway crossing the Mississippi somewhere in between the north and the south where nine cars speed along in pursuit of individual destinations not too far from one another and all within an earshot of the constant noise that brought them together on this journey. The first car arrived on this stretch highway after jumping a barricade 45 miles back, an act that semi-cemented a crossing for other cars to follow and added to the bewilderment of many of those who experienced the reckless act. The second car accelerates on into the distance hoping not to be seen but by nature of its incredible speed it’s impossible for anyone nearby and those in the surrounding houses not to catch at least a glimpse. The third car putts along at a significantly slower pace taking in everything around it and noticing the nuances that so many others hardly blink an eye toward. The fourth car wants nothing to do with the others and drives languidly back and forth endangering nearby wildlife and other free roaming creatures. The fifth car is on cruise control with little idea of its actual origination and clearly no attention paid to where it might be going. Next, was the sixth car, a convertible laced with premium leather seats, a surround sound stereo and low profile tires that may have brought it closer to the ground but the real intent was lost in the assembly. Seventh is a motorcycle, that on this day counts as the seventh vehicle, but is direly wishing for 2 more tires on anything but a sidecar and a new paintjob. Coming in eighth is what looks like a lean, mean fighting machine but on closer examination it becomes apparent that its looks are just that, and it really poses no immediate threat. Lastly, is the most beautiful car on the stretch of highway that day, cruising at a steady pace, the driver lacking zeal but holding a firm grip on the wheel as the car speeds off in the distance leaving a long dark, blank highway glistening in the rear view mirror.
