简介

The Michael J. Epstein Memorial Library worked with 5 of our favorite visual artists: we provided each artist with a song as inspiration for a visual piece. Each artist provided us with a visual work as inspiration for a song. http://mjeml.com/art12 Videos about the creation of the songs: http://blog.michaeljepstein.com/2012/07/the-michael-j-epstein-memorial-library_29.html ---- Michael J Epstein Memorial Library “Behind the Music” of Songs Created for Visual Art Exchange BOSTON (Sep. 13, 2012)--Michael J Epstein Memorial Library are taking collaboration to a whole new level. They have been working with five visual artists to create ten new works of art. The baroque indie pop group provided each of the artists with a song as inspiration for the creation of a new visual piece, while the artists have provided MJEML with a visual piece to serve as inspiration for a new song. The band has begun posting a video a day of the creative process involved with each of the new songs. See the videos and images of the artwork here: (http://blog.michaeljepstein.com/search/label/mjemlart2012) The final pieces (and songs) will be shown and performed (and, at the artists' discretion, available for purchase) at: Out of the Blue Gallery on September 14th. 106 Prospect Street, Cambridge MA http://www.facebook.com/outofthebluegallery The night will also feature performances by: Rob Potylo (http://quietd.com/) and Ad Frank (http://adfrank.com/). Artists, Pieces and Songs Kristilyn (Zombie Romance) will be creating a piece inspired by the MJEML song "Stranger" and MJEML will be writing a song inspired by "The Procession." Walter Sickert will be creating a piece inspired by the MJEML song "The Violinist" and MJEML will be writing a song inspired by "Saint of Glass Worms." Dug McCormack will be creating a piece inspired by the MJEML song "Faith in Free Part II" and MJEML will be writing a song inspired by "twelve little dreams of large things." Raúl Gonzalez III will be creating a piece inspired by the MJEML song "Holy Ghost" and MJEML will be writing a song inspired by "la Cubeta". Craig Maher will be creating a piece inspired by the MJEML song "Amylee" and MJEML will be writing a song inspired by "Brood." Don't let the cardigans and reading glasses fool you. Baroque pop group, Michael J Epstein Memorial Library is not afraid to make some noise. Their songs are sweet with tinges of darkness and bring to mind Magnetic Fields and Arcade Fire. Michael J Epstein Memorial Library's, Volume One, which is full of cleverly written tunes taken from true stories, was released nationally with some help from the Passim Iguana Fund and has recently collaborated with BalletRox to create and perform a three-song indie rock ballet. Epstein Memorial Library featured on Steve Lamacq's BBC Radio 2 show. -BBC "I'm not entirely sure how to describe what went into the recording of this album, but the results are absolutely stunning. Epstein has an ear for the goofily absurd and his music is well-crafted and playful. Reminds me of a much lighter Floating Opera. I'm liking this a lot, perhaps a lot better than a short review." -Aiding & Abetting "The song is easily loved, orchestrated folk-pop that buries itself in your head in the most desirable of ways...But what's most impressive about "Amylee" is that with it The Michael J. Epstein Memorial Library joins the ranks of some of the indie pop greats - Elf Power, The Essex Green, and other leftovers from the Elephant 6 days. And this is a very, very good thing." - FensePost "Michael J. Epstein Memorial Library are the creators of illustrious musical pieces that combine indie folk and alt-country. Michael Epstein, the brains behind all this musical genius, integrates parts of his life to make music that moves from genre to genre without any borders. Epstein's inspiration for the band began from visual and compositional elements. Once things took flight, the music began flowing. --MAGNET "You know I love concept bands, so when the girls in the band all came out dressed as librarians and started the show by telling the audience 'Shhhhhhhhhhh!' I knew that this was right up my alley. Musically, they were kind of a light indie-pop...sort of like Papas Fritas. The violin and flute screamed "class," though not too loudly...this is a library, after all. They were solid, and they had a lot of good stage banter, which is really the difference between a good live band and a great live band." - Jason, To Eleven "EPSTEIN IS A MASTERMIND. ...Volume One is full of really well produced, soft-spoken music. It's an album that gently pulls you in until you find that you've been listening to it for hours. Even the darker songs, like their cover of The Bad Seeds 'The Weeping Song,' are reformed into the bands gentle tones." -Ryan's Smashing Life
