us too is my follow-up to the This one ep and brings together nine of my songs from across the years plus one song written by my good friend, Chris Crooks (who is also the amazing bassist on the album) and a dubstep/dance remix of an old favourite. All the songs come from the heart and my experiences — I hope you enjoy them. Waterfall — is about life, battling and coping with its pressures. Sometimes it feels like we’re drowning, but if we can take a breath and pull ourselves together we’ll get by. If you’ve ever stood under a very fast flowing waterfall and felt as if you could not breathe you’ll get a sense of what I think life can sometimes be like. Guardian angel — is about Amanda, my lovely wife. It captures the sense of having someone in your life that you know you can depend on, that you know is there for you whatever. I am lucky to have found my guardian angel. Neverland — is a song on two levels — not particularly sophisticated levels, but two non-the-less. On the surface it is a simple nursery rhyme song which bounces through an imaginary land of witches, dragons, trolls and unicorns. Dig a little deeper and it’s a darker song! Grace — this wonderful song was penned by the very talented Chris Crooks. He kindly says the song was inspired by me, I don’t know if I deserve the honour, but I am thrilled to sing it and include it on my album. Faceless hotel — is about regret and guilt, about the understanding of how secrets and lies can destroy relationships. It springs from a particularly turbulent time after my first marriage had collapsed. I wrote the song at 4am in a hotel in Birmingham. Shooting star — was written after the death and funeral of a young designer who worked at my agency. Her untimely and very unexpected death was a terrible shock to everyone who knew her. Her spirit lives on in all who knew her. Here for you — is written for Laura and David, my children. It’s about the journey you take together as a father with your children, about the good and the bad and about watching them grow up in front of your eyes. Molton chocolate — is about my first impressions of Amanda and how she made me feel. It’s also how I still feel . . . Untied — is about feeling like you’re going mad. There are moments when nothing really makes sense and you feel like your sanity is quietly being detached from reality. The lyrics refer to the jumble of pressures on all of us from politics to money, from fashion to relationships . . . Don’t understand — is about the breakup of my first marriage, my self-doubt and subsequent journey to start to feel whole again . . . it took some time. Bullshit & La di da (LoveSound dance mix) — Bullshit & La di da is on my earlier EP, This One. I wanted to know what it would sound like remixed and sexed up. The very talented John Lovell has given my signature tune a whole new spin.
