Crying is the first of a series from Mentor Records featuring distinctly beautiful voices that live or work in a country, city or community other than their own singing truly outstanding songs. All tracks are written and produced by artists other than the featured singers in an attempt to explore the notion of artistic disenfranchisement, or the deliberate process of taking away the basic expressive building blocks of “immigrant” singers and challenging them to take ownership and interpret music not specifically written for them. The result is an eclectic mix of extremely infectious, intelligent pop, world music with a vivid cinematic appeal. If this does not call you to action, it will at the very least touch your core and tug at your heart strings just like music was always supposed to. Where else will you hear the rich orchestration of the Viennese Chamber Philharmonic, the captivating allure of the oud, and the excitement of the darabouka in one place and still be able to call it pop music?
