简介
Jay Bowcott's third album Childult is a mixed bag with each song having its own sound. Inspired by influences such as Waylon, Springsteen, Wilco, Weakerthans, and more. This effort was recorded and produced by the songwriter himself in his two bedroom apartment in Bowness, Calgary. The lyrics are deeply personal and Jay considers this album somewhat of an autobiography. The fittingly named album is about a time in life when an individual is between adulthood and childhood and for Jay was a time of coming out and being open about who he was. The album covers issues close to Jay such as his first band in the song Fire On Three or how uncomfortable he feels in a church setting in Secular Level. It features a semi-autobiographical song about the follies of a failing relationship called If I Was Wrong and it even delves into the struggles of being a working cover musician in Broadcast Radio. Chidult is a limbo period where there is a sense of independence, but also a feeling of inadequacy. For musicians, this period tends to last for years, if not a lifetime. Chidult is a real documentation of living the musicians lifestyle and talks about relationship struggles, longing for freedom, and being roadworn.
