"Held Momentarily" marks Jesse's first new album in 15 years. The deeply intimate songs here explore two main themes: the healing power of new love, and the destructive nature of modern anxieties. He uses songwriting to tell the story of his personal life in hopes that others can connect with his vulnerable narrative. Stylistically, the album moves from classic soul to modern folk, with a touch of jazz. After a long break from writing and performing, Jesse started playing solo acoustic shows around New York City in 2012. Based on the feedback he received at these shows, he felt certain that he had the right songs for a new album. Initially, he wanted to pull together a band and producer (as he had with his second album "Rebirth") but the right people never materialized. He decided to work with what he had--recording and producing an album on his own. Jesse had been working with Logic Pro X to record his own demos, but knew he would have to dive deeper to get the sound he wanted for an album. He spent countless hours watching tutorials and learning about the deep features of this software. While working a full-time job, it took Jesse almost a year to get the songs to where was happy with them. He recorded all of the music that you hear--with the exception of the bass tracks. He wanted the richness of a live bass player, which he found in the talented Lior Magal and Jonathan Ahrens. He also decided to work with professional mix engineers to get the final sound to be as polished as possible. He worked remotely with Lior Magal and Igor Stolarsky for the mix, and finally Hanz DeKline for the mastering of the album.
