Ashes To Assets LP (2017) is the debut solo album from Relik. This independent hip hop record was written, composed, and recorded in state prison in its entirety. The artist produced the project without using illegal samples, a computer, or any software to speak of; All of it was created on cheap, out dated equipment in a prison basement. The album theme is that of determination and resilience in the mist of struggle. It is a showcase of Relik's lyrical prowess and his ability to make music with minimal resources; it is a testament to his overall drive and ambition. Some of the song topics include being wise with money, losing love, incarceration, even an ode to doubters/ haters. There is a lot of pain evident in this project, which makes it very human and real--something that is generally lacking in the genre today.
