简介
Baton Rouge, LA primarily known as the home of the LSU Tigers and Southern University Jaguars is slowly transitioning as the landmark for street music of the south. Squirm G represents the same streets as Lil Boosie and Kevin Gates, coming from a similar background, creating music was never his first passion. As a youth he ran the streets with childhood friends which led to him getting shot. To avoid the pitfalls Squirm moved to Arizona with his older brother where he finished high school and focused on staying out of trouble. “I didn’t know anyone in Arizona so all I did was listen to music, I always listened to rap and I would spit something every now and them with my boy Ray Vicks, but when I got to Arizona, I had nothing to do so I built a studio in my brother’s garage and learned how to record.” Shortly after, Squirm returned back home where he and Vicks begin to record for the newly founded Black Balloon Records. Still not taking music seriously, Squirm trailed back into the streets as his main source of income which led himself and Ray Vicks in and out of jail. “At the time we weren’t really making money off of music like some people think, but Ray Vicks built himself up and created a following, but soon as that happened, he went to jail, so he didn’t even get to push his project that just came out. When I saw that, that’s when I really wanted to focus on it, because it made me see that I can really make a living off rap music if I put all my energy into it instead of hustling in the streets.” While Ray Vicks is serving time for a probation violation, Squirm G is stepping up to carry the weight for Black Balloon Records with his first project, “Drugs and Jewelry.” “My music has the Baton Rouge sound, but I’m not really a party, jig artist, my lyrics reflect my life, my story. I was able to get this jewelry off of drugs, now I want to get you hooked on my music and let that be the drugs.” Staying focused on his new career, Squirm G has begun to garner his own following that has gained him exposure across Louisiana and Texas. His grind has caught the attention of DJ Envy, Kevin Gates, Dej Loaf, Shy Glizzy, and French Montana who have all collaborated with the Black Balloon artist. “I’ve got features with artist but not only that, I’ve built relationships with them and they share my vision.” Heading in his new direction, Squirm intends to continue pushing his music and focus on helping his family avoid his mistakes. “I’m really going head first with this and taking advantage of all my contacts I’ve made to build this brand with Black Balloon. Everyone knows, Lil Boosie, Kevin Gates is out there, so now I’m going to step up, Squirm G & Black Balloon Records is walking through!”
