About the Vancouver Children's Choir Founded in 1983 by Rupert Lang, the Vancouver Children’s has been praised for their artistry at local music festivals, including the International Kathaumixw in Powell River and placed second in the Children’s Choir category at the International Musical Eisteddfod, in Llangollen, Wales. Throughout its thirty year history, VCC has offered excellent vocal training and a wide variety of performance experiences, including singing for royalty as well as civic, provincial and federal functions. The choir has recorded sound-track work for NBC and Paramount Pictures, provided back-up vocals for artists such as Judith Forst and the Vancouver Symphony, and sung for a diverse range of corporate events–including at sunset on the top of Whistler Mountain! Along with several local tours, in past years VCC has toured Italy, as well being choir-in-residence at an international conference in York, England. This choir has brought their voices to a wide variety of famous spaces such as Coventry Cathedral in England, St. Peter’s in Rome and Carnegie Hall, New York. Many VCC Alumni have gone on to further musical studies or have joined adult choirs in the city. In all cases they have credited their musical beginnings with the years they spent in Vancouver Children’s Choir. About Rupert Lang Rupert Lang, founder and director of the Vancouver Children's Choir, was born in Red Deer, Alberta and, after an exciting childhood as the son of an Anglican priest and an adolescence where he began studies for a career in the visual arts (painting, sculpture), he took his first degree in music at the University of Manitoba (B.Mus. Honours). He then went on to England where he studied at The Royal School of Church Music, receiving the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Certificate in Church Music and a diplomas from The Royal College of Music and Royal College of Organists. As composer, Lang has written innovative music such as “Spirit of the Child” and “Cantate Domino” and more extended works like “Magnificat” for soprano soloist and men’s choir. His works are often premiered by the Christ Church Cathedral Choir and the Vancouver Children’s Choir, but other commissions have come from Central Bucks West High School in Pennsylvania, Surrey Children’s Choir, Syracuse Children’s Chorus, Vancouver Cantata Singers, Chor Leoni Men’s Choir, Elektra Women’s Choir, Vancouver Chamber Choir, Vancouver Men’s Chorus. A number of works are published by Boosey & Hawkes of New York – for example: “Agneau de Dieu”, “Bell Mass”, “Cantate Domino”, “Carol of the Child”, “Earth Teach Me”, “How Like an Angel”, “Kontakion”, “Like a Child”, “Mass For Many Nations”, “Spirit of the Child” and “Ubi Caritas”.
