简介

With (what about) WORDS guitarist/composer Marc van Vugt and singer/pianist Ineke Vandoorn continue their cd-series Collectables with a double-cd featuring no less than 39 musicians, in varying line-ups. The musical focus on (what about) WORDS shifts from the vocal and introverted, as on it's predecessor ‘White’, to the orchestral and instrumental. The music, that is almost exclusively composed by Marc van Vugt, takes the listener on a journey through a very personal musical world full of fantasy; a world evoking exciting film-noir-like images that sometimes change unexpectedly to lightness and virtuosity; a world that does not follow any musical trend, that is full of details, and that forms the inspiration for the, sometimes heartrending, contributions of the musicians. (what about) WORDS is built around the jazz chamber orchestra Big Bizar Habit, featuring trombonist Robin Eubanks (USA). Saxophonist Paul van Kemenade is not only part of Big Bizar Habit, but also plays in 3 quartet pieces together with the late saxophonist Thomas Chapin's rhythm section, Mario Pavone (USA) and Michael Sarin (USA). The double cd closes with ‘Back to the Market Square’, an intimate piece recorded with the renowned Nederlands Kamerkoor (Dutch Chamber Choir). (what about) WORDS offers a carefully chosen collection of recordings made at different moments and in different line-ups. None of this music has ever been released before. It provides a beautiful overview of the diversity of the musical projects initiated by Marc van Vugt and Ineke Vandoorn in the last couple of years. Some parts of the Ubuntu-suite can be heard, a work-in-progress in which Marc van Vugt gives a personal interpretation of this South-African principle. The title of the double cd is derived from the piece ‘What about Words’. Marc van Vugt: “Words are what we use to communicate what we want and what we feel. But most of the time they only express what we want to say by approximation. For that reason what is behind the words is what counts for me. In general I find that others are way more capable of expressing themselves through words than I am. So: What about words?" In the title piece, the spoken words by Vandoorn almost disappear in van Vugt’s arrangement. In this way the words lose there meaning while the emotion gets under the skin of the listener. The press about White “The cd shows an extraordinary view of the two on both the world of music and the world we all live in. ‘White’ grabs you by the throat, makes you smile, sometimes shiver, but will always move you.” (Rinus van der Heijden - Jazzenzo) “White’ has a beautiful tension arch and is of very high quality. The whole cd shows a mature balance from the musicians. A cd that deserves a permanent spot next to your cd-player.” (Hessel Fluitman–Jazzflits) Over the years we recorded a lot of material during our concert tours. Most of it we recorded live during those concerts. We never had the chance to release them and so they slowly turned into Words, Marc van Vugt & Ineke Vandoorn - collectables two and Three.
