The mother-daughter duo "Nightbloom" plays "Acoustic to Aloha with a twist of Flamenco." Marlene started writing songs at 13, and after a life of raising four children, some of the time in other countries, went back to school and finished her music degree with her daughter. She writes songs with depth of meaning, but can also write for orchestra or electronic music, and has successfully recorded and produced a number of albums. Jasmine "Jazzy", her daughter started singing sentences before she could say them, as a baby. So Marlene tried to keep her in music all her life. When she came home from her freshman year in college playing "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" on guitar, the mom got jealous, remembering that she used to be a music major, causing her to return to college. During their college time, they spent a summer in Spain to learn Flamenco guitar. Over the years, Jasmine developed her songwriting talent and even started writing Flamenco pieces. So to define their motto, "acoustic" points to their singer-songwriter folk-rock songs, "aloha" refers to the songs they have written in hapa Hawaiian style about the place they live in, and "flamenco" means the range of Spanish guitar pieces that includes the difficult rasqueados from Spain. This album "Flamenco Island" is a mix of new arrangements of traditional Spanish pieces and originals, including the title piece which refers to a flamenco piece that Jazzy wrote that has some flavorings of Hawaiian music. Nightbloom has a couple singles out there, including a Christmas song, "Sleigh Bells Ring", and flamenco "Malaguena Dos" (also on this album) and an inspirational/Hawaiian album called "Come Fall in Love," but this is their first full length Flamenco album, with more to follow.
