简介
Lovelight, the new trio CD by Jeff Gardner, was recorded in Brooklyn, NY and features Drew Gress on bass and Anthony Pinciotti on drums. The album has a low key night time mood, all but one of the tunes are Jeff’s compositions - ballads, bossas, a waltz, and even a relaxed funky number – In the Hood. The lone cover is a strikingly original version of Carlos Gardel’s classic bolero – El Dia que me Quieras. The trio is tightly knit and highly sensitive on all the tracks, making for a relaxed and inspiring album. By the way – the title tune is Luz da Paixao – portuguese for Lovelight. Jeff Gardner was born in New York. He studied jazz with Jaki Byard, Charles Banacos, Don Friedman, and John Lewis, classical piano with Ruth Schontal and Ivan Tcherepnin, and harmony with Nadia Boulanger. He has performed with such musicians as Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, Eddie Harris, Steve Lacy, Freddie Hubbard, Bob Sheppard, Paulo Moura, Dori Caymmi, Nelson Veras, Toninho Horta, and the Piano Quartet with Martial Solal, Jaki Byard, and Paul Bley. His recordings include Spirit Call (solo), Continuum, with Eddie Gomez and Billy Hart, Alchemy, with Gary Peacock, Second Home, with Rick Margitza, Sky Dance (recorded in Rio de Janeiro) with Gilberto Gil, and Noches Habaneras, recorded in Havana, Cuba, with Anga, Maraca, Julio Barreto, Diego Valdez, and Felipe Cabrera.
