Dennis Gruenling is one of the best modern blues harmonica players. Whether he is blowing long, mournful tones or lightning quick runs that display his masterful skills, Dennis always makes sure that he is backed with a swinging beat. That comes from his admiration of some of the great jazz horn players. You can hear hints of Lester Young and Illinois Jacquet in the horn-like phrases that are an integral part of his dynamic style. Dennis has also devoted countless hours to studying the the pioneers of the Blues harmonica tradition. Dennis Gruenling is the instigator – smiling, snapping his fingers to the insistent beat, his body constantly moving in reaction to the music as he unleashes another memoragle harp solo. Guitarist (and fellow VizzTone artist) Doug Deming shares Gruenling’s passion for the jump blues music that once dominated the airwaves. Deming can turn heads with his tasty guitar licks, as his scintillating vocals are punctuated by Gruenling’s potent harp fills. Half the tracks feature Doug’s regular band, The Jewel Tones –the rest of the cuts feature players Dennis has worked with over the years in his road band.
