简介

Sunshine Records, Polkas.nl & The National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame presents Walter Ostanek's Jubilee Album, the 100th recording of his remarkable career - "Walter Ostanek Plays Eddie Habat" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presenting Walter Ostanek's 100th album playing Eddie Habat Canada's Polka King, Walter Ostanek, released his first album in 1964. Over the years Walter has released many recordings sharing his love and passion for Cleveland-Style Polkas and Waltzes, many of which were / are Slovenian - a tribute to his heritage. Walter is not only loved in Canada and the USA but many of his 45s, LPs and CDs were released in several countries, including Europe. Walter has the honor of one of the few polka musicians who has won 3 Grammy Awards as well as being honoured by the recording company who released his first albums with a gold record. Achieving 100 albums is a great accomplishment and momentous in the polka music world. Walter wanted to commemorate this occasion with something unique, personal and very special. He had several different ideas but nothing really was quite right. During one of the breakfasts at last year's Polka Party in Cleveland a spontaneous idea occurred between Walter, Mark Habat and me. Walter's 100th album would be Walter Ostanek playing Eddie Habat. This CD has Walter Ostanek and his Band playing 23 songs that Eddie Habat played during his career. A nostalgic tribute CD that would benefit the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame. The biggest thanks goes to Walter! I would also like to thank Mark Habat, Denny Bucar, Tony Petkovsek, Joe Valencic and Murray McFadgen for the making and releasing of this unique Jubilee CD. John Hasper ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As far back as I can remember… I have fond memories of Canada's Polka King Walter Ostanek. When I was a young boy I remember him coming to our home on Sunday Mornings to visit with my Dad, Eddie Habat, and my Mom, Diane. Many times he would just show up to see Dad's Band play on the Cleveland' s TV show Polka Varieties or play at a picnic. I remember Dad telling the story how Walter showed up one Sunday morning and Dad asking him "What are you doing here?" Walter replied "I'm here to see you play." Dad responded, "Good you're going to be on TV." Off they went to appear on Cleveland's Polka Varieties. Walter was introduced as the Canadian Polka Prince, he wasn't even King yet. Thus, began a never ending relationship with the Habat's and Ostanek's. Through the years I worked very hard to develop my Polka musical talents, playing the drums. At the age of 13 I had my first job playing. I went on to play with many famous Polka talents. Finally, in 1981, at the young age of 27, I was asked to record with the Polka King, Walter Ostanek, for the first time. I have gone on, to be on his and several others, becoming most recorded drummer in Polka History. I thank Walter for the honor and privilege to play with him and keeping the name Eddie Habat still alive in this tribute recording to Eddie Habat's music done by Walter Ostanek aka "The Boss". Please enjoy, I know I will.
