This quartet, Ladies Night Out started a several years ago. A group assembled by Monnette Sudler for the Cape May Jazz Festival celebrating women in jazz. At that time it was a trio. Saxophonist Lynn Riley joined the following year for another Festival. The responses from audiences continues to be successful. Jazz guitarist Monnette Sudler has recorded several CD's in her career with an eclectic twist. This year she thought it would be a wonderful to do a live CD of the quartet. The CD was recorded in the studio as a live performance so overdubbing and some things were limited in production. Noriko Kamo is from Japan but has lived and worked in New York City for many years. She is quite wonderful, and is the glue on the organ. She is creative, thoughtful, a driving force in the band. The chemistry between the ladies is amazing. Lynn Riley is really playing soulfully, giving it all she's got. Leesa as well, is a driving force with style all her own on drums. Monnette Sudler's compositions and guitar set the tone for the CD which is primarily instrumental. Two tracks feature vocals; Marcy Deising sings "Happiness Is" a Brazilian groove, with Monnette Sudler on acoustic guitar and "Open Up your Heart/Trust in the Lord", features Monnette Sudler and Barbara Walker on vocals, is strong and spiritually uplifting.
