"Vegas with Randolph" has been called a “brilliant, hook-filled debut”, “easy, catchy pop rock… no matter how hard you try, you just have to tap your foot”, and “a left-field surprise that deserves attention in the power pop community,” and their music has been compared to Fastball, Sloan, and Fountains of Wayne. At the nucleus of VWR is the songwriting partnership of John Ratts and Eric Kern. Starting in high school in their mid-western hometown, the duo has penned hundreds of songs, many of which have received radio airplay, use in TV and video, compilation CD's, and covers by several recording artists. As well as rave reviews, VWR's music has received a 2008 “Song of the Year” nomination (for "Buses, Trains,. and Planes") and a 2009 "Modern Rock Recording of the Year" nomination by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA). Finally, VWR's debut CD has been listed among the 100 Top CD's of 2009 by Absolute Powerpop.com The debut album was conceived to showcase a number of favorite songs written by the pair, both new and old, which had not yet been featured on CD. Ratts and Kern assembled a number of renowned Washington DC area musicians, several of whom had been band mates in previous groups, including: Dan Aylestock (Cherrysmash, Blues Condition), David Purol (Stretching Regular, Euphoria, Fillers), and Brock Harris. Recently, the band has just released the EP "Side Trip", and is rapidly writing and recording more tracks for their upcoming second full length CD. Check back for more new VWR releases soon.
